Boltarek usually use their heavy claws to dig up insects to eat, but in recent years they have started pulling up buried cables near human habitation in search of electricity. Each year several severe blackouts and other disruptions are attributed to the digging of hungry Boltarek.
Boltarek are laid-back Pokémon that prefer to avoid confrontation. They rattle their stiff quills to warn off attackers before resorting to a fight. The rapid movement of the shaking quills generates electricity that serves as a further defense.
