The large, purple bulge on a Bucarat's stomach is actually a bubo filled with dangerous bacteria. Bucarat spit this bacteria at foes when they feel threatened. Sometimes the bubo will burst and spill its contents if prodded too hard, but it repairs itself within a day.
Scientists have researched the bacteria in Bucarat bubos to see if they might have any beneficial applications. So far the only thing they seem to be good for is killing insects, oddly enough, although as they can potentially harm most other living creatures they're still too dangerous to use as a pesticide.
