Muddlebee hatch from mud-pit nests shortly after the spring rains. Some of the mud dries around their bodies, providing some protection from predators.
The drill stinger on a Muddlebee's rump is not very strong, but they like to spin their stingers in fresh puddles anyway and splatter mud everywhere.
