Smulch are said to be piles of compost that have come to life. They smell so terrible that it is hard to stand around them for long, but they leave behind trails of mulch that can be collected to grow very healthy plants.
Smulch lurk around dumpsters and sewers in search of ripe garbage to eat. They produce the richest mulch when they have just eaten very smelly refuse.
